Introducing XAgents v0.4
Chief of Staff, the Xval Engine, apps that stay smooth under agent load, and a new installer. Everything new in v0.4.
XAgents is a calm Mac home for your Claude Code and Codex agents. Each project is a space, each agent is a tab, and the ones that need you say so. It runs on your Mac with your own accounts, and your work stays local. Today we’re shipping v0.4, and we’re opening it to the waitlist in waves.
Chief of Staff
Chief of Staff is one window for delegated work. Say what you want done, by typing or holding to talk. It drafts a plan with your company context, you edit it and approve it, and a Claude lead agent hands the steps to Claude helper agents in your space. Chief of Staff asks before any commit, push or pull request. It comes back only when it needs a decision from you or has results to approve: a summary, the draft PR and branch, the changed files and the checks.

Every agent it starts is an ordinary XAgents tab you can open, read along with or take over, so turning it off later never strands work. It’s an optional module, off until you turn it on in Settings, and it’s included at no extra cost right now, with every plan. If that ever changes, we’ll email you before anything is charged.
Xval Engine
Xval is a small model that runs on your Mac and gives Claude only the tools and skills each task needs, so its context stays clean. It’s opt-in, in Settings › Xval Engine. On a 32-task benchmark of hard, multi-step coding tasks, full tool routing cut cost per task by 15–20% against stock Claude Code, with the same success rate within what 64 runs can show.
Here’s where it stands. In v0.4 the app routes skills on your Mac, and full tool routing arrives in v0.4.1. Very long sessions save less: past about 600k tokens the conversation itself is most of the bill, and the saving falls to about 0–3%. Xval fails open, so if it’s missing or slow your agent starts with its normal, full setup. Method and caveats are on the Xval page.
Your apps first
Agents are hungry. Turn on Your apps first in Settings › Performance and every agent runs below the apps you’re using. In our heavy-load benchmark, janky frames in foreground apps fell from 86.9% to 0.6%. The trade is honest: agents run slower while you work, and get full speed back when you step away. It’s off by default.
And more
- Warm sessions keep an idle Claude prompt cache warm, under a daily cap. Opt-in.
- A new installer handles first-launch setup, migration from earlier versions and a clean uninstall.
- Search everything (⇧⌘F) finds anything across your agents’ work. The index stays on your Mac.
- What’s New shows a one-time sheet when you upgrade to 0.4. The full list is in the changelog.
Private by design
Your prompts never leave your Mac, and nothing is proxied through us. Your agents use your own Claude and Codex accounts. Xval learns from counts of what you use, never from copies of your conversations, and its Settings tab shows what it saved, measured on your Mac.
